Rags to Riches to Rump Shakin'

I reeeeaaaaalllllllly didn't want to go to Zumba this evening.  I was feeling grumpy about two completely unrelated things:
  1. I finished Lincoln's leftover mac & cheese when I wasn't hungry in the slightest.
  2. I botched my counter painting project & I have to sand it & start over.
Neither of these things are the end of the world & neither of these things should have the power over me to change my plans or cause me to make more bad choices (yes, the counter fiasco gets to count as a bad choice since I CHOSE not to read the box where it clearly stated that I should use a foam roller & a frayed edge brush, neither of which I did).

I'd love to say that what got me to Zumba this evening was renewed resolve or a sense of obligation to myself, but was this:

Maybe this calls for a closer look:
Why yes, those ARE my Ames Middle School P.E. shorts circa 1992, & yes, they are a little baggy.  To be fair, 1992 was the beginning of the grunge era, so I likely wore them baggy then, too...but still!  For perspective, when last I wore these shorts, Wreckx-N-Effect was serenading us all with a classic little ditty called "Rump Shaker."

And shake 'er (ha ha ha) I did.  I went to Zumba solely so I could wear my "new" workout shorts, but at least I went.  Never has something out of my mother's rag bag (yep, that's where my husband found them!) been so inspirational...a real rags to riches story.  Only instead of riches it was sweaty Zumba, but that's rich enough for me.

  1. I wasn't sure where to post this- I had a question for you- where at on your body do you measure your waist? Do you measure at your belly button? above it? below it? Just curious.

    I love reading your posts!

  2. Christy,
Thank you! I'm sure there are lots of different ways to measure, I figure as long as I'm consistant I'm comparing apples to apples.

I get measured @ Curves, so someone does it for me (which is handy!). Waist is done by me bending to each side & getting the tape in the "crease." Abdomen is measured by putting my thumb @ belly button level & then putting the tape 3 fingers down. Hips are measured by bending forward & finding the "crease." I never post abdomen for the simple fact that I didn't measure it on my own before I started Curves so I don't have an official starting point.

    Happy measuring!

PS: How lame is it that Blogger won't let me use my own account to post on my blog. Sheesh. :)
